Our class listing is arranged by age
**All enrolled students are eligible to be in one of our Broadway shows.**

We encourage Elementary through High School Students to take a theatre class AND a dance class if possible.

Pre-School Classes
Ages 3-5 (pre-K)

Broadway Babies: Thursdays, 4:15-5:00
Singing, Dancing, Acting - Combo Class

We play games, learn pre-acting skills, creative movement, and expression.  We learn to use our voices through song and role play.  This 45 minute class introduces very young children to joy of theatre using their strength - IMAGINATION!  This year we will focus on beloved characters and create new ones.  *This class will participate in the Christmas Open House and will be eligible to participate in a Broadway show!

Tinker belles, Tutus, and Lil' Buckroos:  Tues.4:14-5:00
(Tap, Ballet, Moderate Gymnastics) Combo class

In this fun and whimsical class, students will learn to express themselves using movement as they learn the fundamentals of tap and ballet.  Designed for little ones (ages 3-5) *older "2s" may take the class if they are potty trained.  We will practice gross motor skills, encourage creativity and teach ballet and tap in a warm and loving atmosphere.  Teachers will guide students to participate in group activities that will get them ready for a lifetime of learning while falling in love with a beautiful art form.  Each week, students will gain control over their bodies, have more freedom of expression, learn new dance terminology and start to memorize movement sequences....and be able to perform them!

Elementary Students
1st grade - 5rd grade

Curtain Up Theatre Class:  Mondays 4:15-5:15
K-2nd

Games and more games - from Improv to Freeze Dance to working on skits and musical numbers, this will be a jam packed class for this energetic age.  We will create props as we look at Musical Themes, Performance Preparation, and Dance for Musical Theatre and beyond.  This year we will work with puppets to help us create characters, voicing, and projection!

Curtain Call Theatre Class:  Mondays 5:15-6:15
3rd - 5th

This year we will focus on the actor's instrument, both body and voice.  Using theatre games, improv, miming, as well as changing our voices, we will learn to build characters.  Students will learn to perform monologues, dialogues as well as ensemble scenes.  Scenes from Shakespeare will be used to learn stage combat, movement, diction and enunciation.  We will also learn to create show stopping musical theatre numbers by adding dance and vocals to our acting.  

Elementary Improv:  Monday 6:15-7:00

There is never enough time for improv!!  Using a game format, students will learn to think on their feet, make solid choices, and have FUN!!  In MainStage improv, emphasis is placed on:  character development, different forms of expression in voice and movement,  quick thinking, and problem solving.

Combo Dance 1 *Students from last year's tinker belle class may take this class

This class is for students K-2 who are interested in furthering (OR STARTING!) their dance education.  This class will encourage freedom of expression through movement, practice gross motor skills and begin focusing on choreograph retention.  At this level, students will be able to recognize many dance terms by name and movement.  In ballet, students will begin to work at the barre and will learn ballet terminology (in French and English!)  Along will traditional tap and ballet, jazz is introduced as a fun and technical genre that is usually a class favorite!  

Hip Hop 1:  Thursdays 4:15-5:15
Hip Hop Technique
Ages 6 - 12

In this fun and upbeat class, students will learn hip hop skills set to popular hip hop music.  All movement and song choices are elementary school appropriate.  This is an open class for different levels and the class moves quickly!  From the beginning of class to the end, the dancers never stop moving.  The choreographic sequences are complex and intricate with "&" counts being added to phrases.  Students have a lot of fun pushing their minds and bodies in this energetic class.  
 
Combo Dance 2, 5.6.7.8 Dance: Thursday 5:15-6:15
Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Light Gymnastics

This class is for students who have completed 2-3 years of dance.  In this class, tap technique is becoming more difficult and rhythmic sequences are more complex.  In ballet, proper technique is stressed along with history and terminology.  Ballet includes barre, adagio and allegro.  In Jazz, proper technique and stretch/strength exercises are encourages as we begin more difficult skills.  During Jazz, some light gymnastics will be added.  

Open Tap/Jazz:  Monday 5:30-6:15

For students ready to move past the combo classes or for older students new to dance.  This class will emphasize basic skills and breakdown the elements of tap and jazz.  Fun and exciting combos will be added weekly as students develop skills and confidence.

Open Ballet 1: Monday 6:15-7:15
*Upper Elementary/Middle School/High School

For dance students ready to move past the combo class stage AND for older beginners, this class will emphasize proper technique along with proper ballet terminology.  This class will use barre and across the floor exercises to help students learn new skills and refresh skills learned in previous years at a pace designed for individual instruction.  This is the perfect ballet class for older beginners



Middle School
6th - 8th grades

Drama:  Tuesday, 4:00-5:00 
6th - 8th

Improv, theatre games, voice control, oral interpretation, interpretive actions, blocking a scene....and more are tools young actors will use to gain a deeper understanding of acting and motivation in creating a well defined character.  Monologues, dialogues, ensemble work and more will help students understand and put into practice the studied skills.  Students will learn theatre history by creating scenes from different eras.  Students will also learn the many facets and jobs that create a show.  

Musical Theatre/Voice:  Tuesday,  5:00-6:00  
6th - 8th

During this time of extreme transition, students will learn healthy vocal techniques as they develop their voices.  We will focus on breathing, enunciation, placement, harmony, using pop and musical theatre music.  
After learning a song, we will learn choreography and characterization to create dynamic musical theatre numbers.  Students will be encouraged to add to the creative process and will work in groups to create their own numbers.  Working as a team in all areas will be stressed. 

Open Improv 1:  Wednesday 5:00-6:00
6th-8th

Improv, improv, and nothing but improv.  Students will play improv games to strengthen acting skills, instant characterization, stage movement, and mind-body connections.  This class will help the less confident child crash out of their shell.  All students will learn to think on their feet, work together as a team, "make it work", and so much more.  This is a very high energy class and much hilarity always ensues.   No prior experience necessary.


Open Tap/Jazz:  Monday 5:30-6:15

"Though this be madness, yet there is method in't" (Hamlet II.ii.) This year our emphasis will be on the emotional context of characterization and scene work.  In Musical Theatre, we will continue to work on vocal styles and take a serious look at the difference in "The Golden Age" of Musical Theatre and Contemporary Musicals.  We will do this by recreating some of the most beloved production numbers in theatre.  This year, students will have the opportunity to block and choreograph at least one number.  This class will also produce a "straight" play later in the spring.

Improv 2/Advanced Acting:  Wednesday 4:15-5:15
9th - 12th

This class is for the serious and committed drama student wishing to take
their acting to a new level.  Different acting techniques and a more "serious" approach to improv will be a large part of this class.  All class exercises will be created so that students are studying not only technique, but the art of acting.  This is a highly creative class and students will be able to identify and "act" using the major American acting styles.  In addition, students will learn and understand the roles of those involved in play production - from lighting, set, and costume design to the management of the stage and theatre.  




Open Tap/Jazz:  Monday 5:30-6:15
*Upper Elementary/Middle School/High School

For students ready to move past the combo classes or for older students new to dance.  This class will emphasize basic skills and breakdown the elements of tap and jazz.  Fun and exciting combos will be added weekly as students develop skills and confidence. This class can be taken in conjunction with Triple Threat.

Open Ballet 1: Monday 6:15-7:15
*Upper Elementary/Middle School/High School

For dance students ready to move past the combo class stage AND for older beginners, this class will emphasize proper technique along with proper ballet terminology.  This class will use barre and across the floor exercises to help students learn new skills and refresh skills learned in previous years at a pace designed for individual instruction.  This is the perfect ballet class for older beginners.  This class can be taken in conjunction with Open Ballet 2 for more motivated students or for students preparing for pointe.

Triple Threat: Thursday 6:30-8:00

Grades 9-12 (Teens) *Middle School with dance experience and teacher approval.
Prepare for auditions with this fast paced advanced level class.  This class is for ALL musical theatre students who want to take their dance technique to the next level.  Aptly names, this class focuses on the third leg of a great musical theatre performer - dance, and caters to the specific needs from the industry.  Technique and terminology are the main goals of this class, but are incorporated into musical theatre choreography so that retention, improvisation and showmanship are highlighted.  This class is tap and jazz and moves very quickly (there is just so much to learn!)  This is an extremely fun class, but it is INTENSE because all students are very focused and driven.  


Hip Hop 2:  Tuesday 6:00-7:00

Ages:  High School +OR with teacher permission.
In this fun and upbeat class, students will learn more complex hip hop skills set to popular hip hop music.  All movement and song choices are high school appropriate (no profanity).  This is an open class for different levels and the class moves quickly!  From the beginning to the end, the dancers never stop moving.  The choreographic sequences are complex and intricate with the "and" and "e" counts being added to phrases.  Students have a lot of fun pushing their minds and bodies in this energetic class!  

Advanced Dance:  Wednesday 4:00-5:00
Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Ballet
Teacher Approval Only

This is an extremely advance level course and should be taken with 8+ years of dance training.  Students in this class will progress with proper technique and new skills with an intense focus on maturity and quality of movement.


Open Ballet:  Wednesday 6:00-7:00

This class is designed like a New York studio open class.  "Open" means different levels of technique and experience.  This class is a classical ballet class, complete with barre, center, adagio, allegro and reverence that focuses on alignment and technique.  Ballet is the fundamental stepping stone to all dance genres, and studying ballet makes all disciplines stronger.  Students will begin to understand ballet history along with adding French and English ballet terminology to their bank of knowledge.  With each class, students will begin to see changes in their bodies in terms of posture and poise.  This class is very structured and requires a mature attitude and passion for dance and self-improvement.  From beginners to advanced levels, this class will improve dancers' all-around technique.  Adults are welcomed!!!
Dress code required:  
Girls - Pink tights and leotard(leggings, shorts, and skirts may b worn on top)  Hair MUST be worn in a bun - short hair off of the face.
Boys - White shirt and black bottoms.


Rehearsals - Sets - Props - Costumes - Tech.

During the production time of our shows, Friday afternoons will be used for rehearsals - 4:00-6:00.  Students will get a schedule of their rehearsal times and dates.  From 6:30-8:30 on Friday evenings, students can meet at the theatre to build and paint sets, learn to work the lights and sound as well as other of the  more technical aspects of theatre.  This is an optional class and will be appropriate for all ages DURING the production of the show.
